SK: The house “roach’’ bites & the triple-locked tonic

A suitably-themed snack and an atypical drink inspired by the house and it's horrific aesthetic...

The House Roach Bites (45mins.-1 hour)

INGREDIENTS:

Peanut butter(1/4 cup)  ■ chocolate wafer cookies (finely crushed) (7-8 count or 1 cup)

■ Rice puff cereal (Rice Krispies)(1 cup)

■ Maple syrup or honey (1/4 cup)

■ Dark chocolate chips (melted) (1/4 cup)

■ Dark chocolate chips (whole) (1/4 cup)

■ Food-grade color gel pens (any color)

■ Salt (a pinch)

INSTRUCTIONS:

•Melt the mix

In a microwave safe bowl, take the peanut

butter and maple syrup and put them into the bowl. Put them in the microwave for 30-45 seconds. Once heated, use a spoon to blend into a creamy paste.

Smash the cookies

Take the chocolate wafer cookies and throw them into a zip lock bag. Take a plastic mallet or tenderizer and smash them into a crumby, grain-sized consistency. Grab a mixing bowl and empty the bag into it.

Gather them up

Take the mixing bowl with the crushed cookies and add the puff rice cereal, the chocolate chips (1/4 cup), and a pinch of salt. Take the melted peanut butter and maple syrup mix and pour that into the mixing bowl. I recommend hand mixing to avoid crushing the rice puff cereal. Mix the

pasty peanut butter-syrup blend with the rest of the ingredients. Once thoroughly mixed, begin to form balls about the size of a ping pong ball. This amount should make about 9-10 pieces.

Form them

Take a sheet of parchment paper and arrange the balls in rows.

Take each ball and gently form them into an oval, diamond shape(resembling a roach). Press down gently on the ball and score the edges as you mold the piece into shape. Don't worry, roaches aren't perfect. Now that they are all formed, time to heat the chocolate chips.

•Melt the chocolate

In a microwave safe bowl, take the chips (1/4 cup) and melt them for about 30 seconds one round. Mix and then place

them in the microwave again for a second round of 30 seconds and mix again. The chocolate should be liquid at this point. Take the melted chocolate and with a spoon, drizzle chocolate over each bite. Ensure that the very top is covered in chocolate. Allow the chocolate to respond to gravity by oozing down the sides, encapsulating the bite in chocolate. Do the same for the rest and off the the fridge for rest.

Place the bites in the fridge for approximately 30-40 minutes depending on your refrigerator's power.

The Finale

Once the bites have hardened, take your food-grade colored gel pens and draw the antennas over the top by drawing a "V" on top of the bite close to the tip.

Take pictures and yuck your guests out with these deliciously, creepy treats.

The Triple-Locked Tonic, the blackberry & sage "bled-lemonade" (5 mins.)

INGREDIENTS: (enough for 2 drinks)

■ Sage (3-4 leaves)

■ Fresh blackberries (1/4 cup)

■ Lemons (6 count)

■ Monkfruit (2 tbsp.)

■ Sparkling water (a splash to active the. sage and blackberries.)

INSTRUCTIONS:

•Slice the lemons and juice them. Strain the lemon juice free from seeds and pulp.

•Mash time

In a dish add your washed blackberries and sage leaves. Mash them together. Get a good mix going. Take a shaker and scoop the sage and berry mix into the shaker. Add a splash of sparkling water and lightly shake. If you shake too hard the sparkling water will do more than active the sage and berry mix... by exploding! Act like a pro.

•Lemonade anyone?

In a glass add some ice. Take your shaker and bleed the black liquid into the ice glass. Now add your lemon juice and Monkfruit. Blend and enjoy on one of those under the basement kinda days. You can choose to garnish whichever way you like.

Now go hide under the stairs!

Cheers!
